TLDR; Kaban

TLDR; is intended to give the readers a competitive edge, and I can think of no better series than Kaban by Gary Metcalf. His three books offer a stepwise approach to implementing continuous improvement in any workplace.

Kaban is a short, no-frills phrase for how Toyota took over the market. At it's core, it is the philosophy of continuous improvement. Let's be honest, we all have things that we can do better. This book allowed me to cut down dramatically on overtime by identifying the bottlenecks in different processes at my employer, long before I was a manager. (Yes, I was salaried at the time, so I was very motivated!)

The chapters of the first book include...

  • What is Kanban

  • Implementing Kanban <= Hint: it's very simple and easy

  • What is a Kanban Card

  • Kanban Roadmaps

  • Reasons to Employ Kanban <= Hint: if you do not, your competitors will

  • Personal Kanban: What It Is and Why You Should Use It

  • Kanban for Kids at School and at Home

  • The Two Bin Kanban System

  • How Is Kanban Distinct From Scrum

  • Scrumban

  • Kanban vs. XP

  • Kanban Scaling for Business

  • Why Your Project Team Misses Delivery Deadlines

  • Conclusion

When I read this book the first time, I did not have a child. Now, I need to go back and hit one of these chapters again!
