Pro-tips: Other skills to consider

Pro-tips exist to improve your "game" in the field. If you can consistently outperform your competition, you will get noticed. Let's talk about some skills that most early / mid career systems integrators could benefit from.

Information Technology

Just the basics of IT are required for the job. Knowing the difference between an Active Directory and a Workgroup environment is expected. Knowing how to troubleshoot AD is an edge over many of your competitors. (Not sure where to start? Try this!)

Can you do basic switching and routing? If not, take a Network+ and Security+ class. You can move to something more afterwards. Your gear will dictate what comes next.

Can you do basic server administration? If you are doing Windows, out some of the older MSCE books. If Linux, find the distro you use and put it on an old computer at home. They can help with the on-prem side of your setup. Your local community college is very likely to have the cloud side covered.

Are you doing SQL? You can learn the basics anywhere. If you have to troubleshoot, you might want to check this out.

Logistics

Just a little knowledge of supply chains can help out. You could look at how to design them or how to implement them.

Process knowledge

Check with your operators! They often know more than they are given credit for.

If you are a process engineer, go buy some Wiley books on your subject! They are pricy, but really well researched. Read a dozen on a subject and you will be able to talk to your SMEs.

Udemy

If you know you need something in particular, check Udemy. The course are cheap and the knowledge is usually well laid out.

Best of luck!
